Latin Dance Shoes

Jeanette Trujillo can be considered Denver's first lady of Latin dance.
Known locally as La Muneca (little doll), Trujillo has been gracing stages with her traditional Mexican and Spanish dancing for three decades.
But Trujillo stumbled into the specialty as a youngster, after getting booted from a ballet class.
`I forgot my Latin dance shoes one day,'' Trujillo remembers. `Well, my teacher was really strict and she decided she wasn't going to teach me because of it.''
Fed up, Trujillo asked her parents to enroll her at a Spanish dance studio instead.
`I had some neighbors that were really into Latin dancing and that's how I got into it,'' Trujillo explains. ``Being Spanish, you realize it's just a part of you and you want to continue with it.''

Still, Trujillo never expected her passion to turn into a career. `I don't know if you really make a full decision about that,'' she reflects. ``I just always loved dance.''
Today, Trujillo performs professionally, teaches and directs the Ballet Folklorico de Fiesta Colorado, a Spanish and Mexican folk dance troupe.
