If there's one soft spot, it's Taylor's performance as Bloom. Despite his best efforts, Taylor never duplicates Gene Wilder's idiosyncratic hysteria from the film and often looks silly trying. By the end, he produces a likeable Leo, a characterization that works well within the production. With a terrific voice and marvelous dance steps, Curtis reprises her Broadway role, creating an Ulla that's easily the sexiest caricature ever to saunter along on dance pumps.
